ColegauCymru welcomes today’s Welsh Government guarantee of free school meal provision for young people across Wales. Confirmed by Education Minister, Kirsty Williams, the provision will cover all school holidays up to and including Easter 2021, as a result of an additional £11m of funding.
Following the announcement, a further £700,000 has also been allocated to support colleges to provide similar provision for eligible learners on FE programmes via the Financial Contingency Fund (FCF). The fund distributes resources via a needs-based system to ensure that those who most require support receive this vital lifeline.
ColegauCymru Chief Executive Iestyn Davies said,
“In these difficult times, we warmly welcome today’s announcement of additional funding. Our priority remains the wellbeing and safety of all our learners and to ensure that the most disadvantaged are given the support they need to continue their learning.”
