This week we’re celebrating Adult Learners’ Week, the largest celebration of lifelong learning in Wales, with over 10,000 adults participating each year in a wide range of learning activities. This campaign is coordinated by the Learning and Work Institute in partnership with the Welsh Government and other key partners.

The aim of the campaign is to inspire more people to discover a passion for learning, while helping them develop valuable skills for work and life. Throughout Adult Learners’ Week, there will be hundreds of free and accessible courses, events, taster sessions, open days, and learning resources available to everyone.

ColegauCymru Chief Executive, David Hagendyk, said,

“We are delighted to once again be supporting Adult Learners’ Week which provides us with an opportunity to showcase the value of adult learning – not only for our learners and communities but for the economic prosperity of Wales.”

Our FE colleges are supportive of the Welsh Government’s goal of making Wales a nation of second chances. A nation where it is never too late to learn. Where people have the confidence, motivation and means to re-enter education to gain the skills they need to work and thrive at any stage.

A skilled workforce is essential to ensure a thriving Welsh economy. Adult learning and upskilling are a key part of the rebuilding of our economy in what continues to be a challenging time. The benefits of lifelong learning are varied and many – from providing a sense of wellbeing, purpose and achievement to addressing social issues such as loneliness and isolation. These benefits in turn provide communities with the tools to thrive.  Skills help people into work and to improve at work which allows us all to keep up with a changing world and our rapidly transforming workplaces.
