Following many years of planning, consulting and hard work from multiple sectors, the Additional Learning Needs Code and regulations have been laid is the Senedd this week. Following a plenary session later in March, these important documents will then be published ahead of the system which will go live in September 2021.

For colleges, this legislation is the first of its kind to impact on the way in which they work. Over the last three years, the 13 further education institutions in Wales have been working together towards making sure that the provision offered to all young people who have a learning difficulty and/or a disability ensures their success. Over the next few months, ColegauCymru will be sharing some of the most important ALN stories that will focus on how the legislation will affect young people in Wales and the ways in which colleges are preparing to meet their new duties.

ColegauCymru ALN Transformation Lead Chris Denham said,

“ALN colleges have been really enthusiastic about ALN transformation. FEI staff across Wales have already embraced the changes and made so many improvements to their learning provision. I am confident that they will continue to provide a first class service for all their learners.”
