ColegauCymru staff have been keen to undertake a team challenge, to bring colleagues together during these difficult times, and to raise some much-needed funds for a deserving charity.
And so, we embarked on #Her344Challenge with a goal to collectively walk, run and cycle the distance between all our member colleges, a huge 344 miles! We gave ourselves a 7-day window to complete the challenge.
Starting on Monday 18th May our virtual route started in Merthyr Tydfil in the South Wales Valleys and finished in North East Wales at Coleg Cambria, taking the following route:
The College Merthyr Tydfil - Coleg Gwent - Adult Learning Wales (Cardiff) - St David's Catholic Sixth Form College (Cardiff) - Cardiff and Vale College - Coleg y Cymoedd - Bridgend College - NPTC Group of Colleges - Gower College Swansea - Coleg Sir Gâr - Pembrokeshire College - Coleg Ceredigion - Grŵp Llandrillo Menai - Coleg Cambria.
The challenge was a great opportunity to support our chosen charity, Marie Curie. This charity carries out fantastic work as they provide care and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. Last year they cared for over 40,000 people across the UK. During these difficult times, when the usual income streams charities such as Marie Curie rely upon to carry out their vital work have all but stopped, we felt it was more important than ever to support them with our challenge.
We initially set a modest fundraising target of £200, but are delighted to have reached over £1,000 (and still counting). We also surpassed our target of 344 miles, reaching 435.16 miles over the 7 days.
ColegauCymru would like to say a big thank you to all who have generously donated and to all our colleagues who got involved. A special thank you also to Jon Davies, a new member of the ColegauCymru team who came up with the fundraising idea and managed the tracking and fundraising.
With so many more people still eager to donate to a fantastic cause, we have decided to keep the donation page live a little longer. If you would like to make a donation to the very deserving charity, Marie Curie, please visit the link below.
