Learners from Coleg Ceredigion have been amongst the first in Wales to take advantage of the return to overseas exchange opportunities with a visit to Alberta in Canada.
The long-awaited visit, delayed due to restrictions imposed by the Covid19 pandemic, was made possible through a grant from the UK Government funded Turing Scheme. The exchange allowed learners from Coleg Ceredigion to explore how successful ideas used by the rural public health care system of Alberta can be implemented in remote areas of Wales.
Students from the Access to Higher Education Diploma in Health Sciences and second-year Health and Social Care students from the Aberystwyth Campus visited Calgary, Banff and Canmore were also able to learn about post-16 nurse training and how the Alberta healthcare system internalises staff education.
There was a further opportunity to work with Indigenous groups in Canada to learn of the barriers that they face in accessing healthcare.
On their return, learners will have the opportunity to showcase the best practice they have learned.
