ColegauCymru is pleased to announce the appointment of David Hagendyk as our new Chief Executive.
David will be responsible for leading ColegauCymru to ensure the further education sector's views are heard, the benefits of FE and skills are promoted and our collective interests effectively represented. He will work with sector leaders and key stakeholders, to influence the strategic direction and shape of policy, while leading effective lobbying campaigns and consultations.
ColegauCymru Chair Guy Lacey, said,
“I am absolutely delighted that David has accepted the role of Chief Executive. He brings extensive knowledge of policy and post-compulsory education to the role at a time when we will be facing major change. I know that all my colleagues in the sector will give David a very warm welcome and greatly look forward to working with him.”
David currently works as Director for Wales at Learning and Work Institute Cymru. He is responsible for leading the work of the organisation in Wales and for promoting to government and service providers the value of adult learning and the need for investment and policies to raise productivity, improve progression from low pay and reduce inequality.
David has worked in leadership, campaigning and policy development roles in Wales for the last eighteen years. Before joining L&WI Cymru, he worked for seven years as the General Secretary of Welsh Labour. Prior to this he was the Political Liaison Officer for the University and College Union Cymru, as the Head of Policy for Welsh Labour, and has worked as a researcher for Huw Lewis AM and Lynne Neagle AM.
David added,
“I am delighted to be appointed as the new Chief Executive of ColegauCymru and look forward to the challenges ahead. This is an exciting time to be part of the Further Education sector where I already have positive working relationships with many colleagues. I’m keen to build on these as we take ColegauCymru and the FE sector forward. I know I will be working with a great team of people who are enthusiastic about the ongoing role that FE can play in education in Wales and across society.”
David will begin the role on 30 October 2022.
