ColegauCymru is calling for further action as it responds to today’s Welsh Government announcement to Estyn’s recommendations in the Initial teacher education in the post-compulsory education and training sectors report.

Whilst we cautiously welcome the initial findings, we are now calling for a further in-depth examination of this important review. A post-16 version of the Furlong Review of 2015 is now needed, where clear and tangible recommendations can be made to support the sector.

ColegauCymru Director of Development Kelly Edwards said,

“This report is a positive step in the right direction. A further review should be undertaken in a manner that is independent, sufficiently high-level and authoritative and offer genuine insight and vision for the future of teacher training in further education and technical education.”

ColegauCymru continues to seek parity of esteem across all post-16 education settings, and to guarantee that all learners are given the best possible opportunities to succeed in their studies, and to progress to employment or further study. We remain committed to working closely with Welsh Government and other stakeholders to reach our collective goals.
