Wales’ First Minister has appointed a new Welsh Government Cabinet.

Lynne Neagle MS continues in her role as Cabinet Secretary for Education, being joined by Vikki Howells MS appointed as Minister for Further and Higher Education. Rebecca Evans MS moves across from Finance, taking on the Economy, Energy and Planning brief. Jack Sargeant MS adds to his portfolio, now as Minister for Culture, Skills and Social Partnership.

ColegauCymru Chief Executive, Dave Hagendyk, said,

“On behalf of ColegauCymru, I would like to extend our congratulations to the whole team appointed by the First Minister, and we look forward to working with Lynne Neagle, Vikki Howells and Jack Sargeant.

While significant pressures on the public purse remain, it is critical that we work together to deliver a system that works for our learners, communities and employers.

We have a real opportunity now to develop a vocational education and training strategy for Wales, putting learners at the heart of the system, and ensuring that we restore the vital, long-term funding for apprenticeships as we look to grow our economy.

However, with multiple Ministers and Cabinet Secretaries having responsibility for aspects of policy and delivery it is vital that they work together in a coordinated way. This means building a coherent 14-19 pathway, developing a plan for vocational education and training, valuing and investing in apprenticeships, and building a whole system focused on lifelong learning.

We stand ready to work with Welsh Government in delivering a stronger, greener and fairer Wales”.
