Today, the Welsh Government has laid the Welsh Language and Education (Wales) Bill before the Senedd. The Bill is aimed at helping the Welsh Government to achieve one million Welsh speakers by 2050, with the objective of all pupils being independent Welsh language users, at least, by the time they reach the end of compulsory school age.
ColegauCymru Interim Chief Executive Kelly Edwards, said,
“The further education sector embraces the Welsh Government’s vision for one million Welsh speakers and this Bill is an important step on our journey together. As we digest the detail of the Bill, we remain committed to working with Welsh Government and the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol. The continued support of the Welsh Government for colleges is critical to achieving the ambition of one million Welsh speakers. We are proud of the continued success of learners and staff in our colleges developing their Welsh language skills and we are keen to build on this momentum”.
