ColegauCymru is delighted to welcome Deputy Minister for Arts and Sport Dawn Bowden MS, to our forthcoming event, Winter of Wellbeing - Outdoor Challenge 2022, on 30 March.

Funded as part of the Welsh Government Winter of Wellbeing Programme which looks to support learners’ wellbeing and progression post-Covid, we’ll be joining forces with our partners The Outdoor Partnership and Sport Wales for this two-day event (29 – 30 March). College learners will be encouraged to engage in physical activities such as water sports and indoor climbing, for many this being their first experience which in turn will help promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Over 150 learners are set to come together to participate in the event which will provide the Deputy Minister with a fantastic opportunity to meet learners and volunteers and to see Welsh Government funding in action!

ColegauCymru Active Wellbeing Project Manager Rob Baynham said,

“The last two years have had a huge impact on the health and wellbeing of the nation as well as significant interruption to the education system. The research commissioned by ColegauCymru in 2021 found that active wellbeing has many potential benefits and that it could be used as a sustainable preventative mental health model. This event will support learners and staff in making the connection between being active and wellbeing.

The event will be held at the Rock UK Summit centre in Trelewis, South Wales. The facility is centrally located to the further education colleges involved and in areas where activity levels dropped significantly during the Pandemic. This promises to be an inclusive event with a broad range of learners expected to attend - from agriculture students to aircraft engineering learners - and with participation expected from 12 college campuses from across Wales.

ColegauCymru Chief Executive Iestyn Davies added,

“We’re grateful for the additional Winter of Wellbeing funding provided as part of the Welsh Government Renew and Reform Plan to help our learners recover and thrive following a challenging two years. This funding will support the further education sector to help offset any further negative impact.”
