ColegauCymru has warmly welcomed the Welsh Government announcement that former Education Minister Kirsty Williams is to chair the International Learning Exchange Programme (ILEP) Advisory Board.

Confirmation was received in March 2021 that the new Programme would be made available following the UK Government’s decision to withdraw from the popular Erasmus+ Scheme.

ColegauCymru Chief Executive Iestyn Davies said,

"Ms Williams has long been a supporter of the further education sector and so this announcement is warmly welcomed. The value of international exchange programmes has long been known, providing opportunities to broaden the horizons of its participants which in turn gives a positive impact on individuals, colleges and the wider community. This Programme will also allow us to maintain and build on our relationships with overseas partners.”

ColegauCymru European and International Project Manager Sian Holleran added,

“Overseas programmes such as these provide excellent opportunities for both learners and staff. It is particularly reassuring to see that the Welsh Government is committed to funding these opportunities over the long term. This will enable us to develop a more strategic approach to our international work and to explore internationalisation more broadly within the FE sector in Wales.”

ColegauCymru International looks forward to working with Ms Williams and the board to ensure that the programme delivers for Wales.
