Colleges celebrate GCSE and vocational results success

Further education colleges are today congratulating learners across Wales as they receive their GCSE and vocational results.

ColegauCymru Chair Guy Lacey said,

“Congratulations to all learners as they receive their results following a challenging three years. We also send our sincere thanks to our education colleagues, and parents and carers alike who have supported young people as they navigated this testing period.”

This year, the journey back to pre-pandemic qualification arrangements continues. Exams took place once again during May and June, and non-examination assessments were also completed in many subjects. A slightly different approach this summer has been implemented - national results for WJEC qualifications are broadly midway between the results awarded in 2019 (the last year before the pandemic) and 2022 (the first year that learners sat exams as we emerged from the pandemic).

In another year filled with challenges and uncertainties, none more so than the impact of the increased cost of living, learners have demonstrated their resilience and determination and we commend their efforts along with those of lecturers and college staff, who have collaborated to create an environment conducive to enabling success.

ColegauCymru Chief Executive David Hagendyk added,

“Our colleges are once again here to support young people to take their next steps in their learning journey. With a broad offering, FE colleges are ideally placed to be able to meet a wide range of needs, allowing them to support all types of learners to achieve their full potential. Regardless of the results they receive today, learners will have the best options available to them and are encouraged to contact their local college to find out more.”
