Colleges across Wales have today welcomed the Minister for Education, Jeremy Miles’ commitment to an injection of £1.5m of additional funding to support the costs of staff pay increases.

Welsh Government’s long-standing commitment to pay parity between teachers in schools and lecturers in further education has been reaffirmed and the additional funding will be welcomed by further education institutions for the remainder of the current financial year.

ColegauCymru Chief Executive Iestyn Davies said,

"We welcome today’s statement and Welsh Government’s clear appreciation of the value of the further education sector here in Wales. The additional funding is essential to recognise the hard work and commitment of college staff in what has been a challenging 18 months. It will be a welcome boost for staff who continue to navigate the challenges brought about by the pandemic.”

The additional funding has provided financial support to March 2022. Colleges will now continue to liaise closely with joint trade union colleagues to consider the next steps.
