Further to yesterday’s Welsh Government announcement that secondary schools and colleges will move to online teaching and learning from Monday 14 December, further education colleges in Wales have come together to confirm an extended period of remote provision.
From Monday, and for the remaining week of the autumn term (until Friday 18 December), learning and teaching will move to online provision and will continue into the new year for the period Monday 4 January through to Friday 8 January.
Vulnerable learners
Colleges will decide how they will continue to support vulnerable learners based on their individual needs. This may mean that some learners could be expected to attend the college for their additional support.
Assessments
To minimise disruption, assessments for technical, vocational and general qualifications that are scheduled during this time and that are deemed necessary, will continue to take place. Where possible assessments will be rescheduled. Learners and staff are encouraged to contact their respective college for further guidance and support.
College staff unable to work from home
Staff that are unable to work remotely are expected to continue to attend college to complete their duties during this period.
ColegauCymru Chief Executive Iestyn Davies said,
“The Covid19 pandemic continues to raise a number of challenges for the education sector. We support the Minister’s announcement to move learning and teaching to online provision as part of the national effort to reduce transmission of Coronavirus. As always, the health and safety of learners, staff and their extended families remains our priority, and we will support efforts to this end. It is also inevitable that further modifications and adaptations will have to take place to teaching and assessment as the disruption to learning continues.”
It is currently expected that face-to-face provision will recommence from Monday 11 January. Safety measures will continue for any learners or staff should they need, in limited circumstances, to attend college.
