ColegauCymru has today welcomed the Minister for Education’s announcement to provide additional financial support for young people to move on to the next phase in their learning.

ColegauCymru Chair Guy Lacey said,

“The announcement will help colleges and schools to work together to ensure an effective transition to post-16 education, be it through vocational or academic programmes of study. The funding will enable colleges to provide additional support both to learners transitioning to college and for those entering their second year of A levels in particular.”

The funding will sit alongside financial assistance already provided by the Welsh Government to address concerns around mental health and wellbeing and for access to laptops and internet access.

ColegauCymru Chief Executive Iestyn Davies added,

“The additional funding is a clear indication of the Minister’s commitment to support learners during the Covid19 pandemic. We are grateful for her continued support of the FE sector, and the National Mission for Education, at this challenging time. There have been and will no doubt be further challenges ahead, but this additional finance will help to support school pupils and FE learners to take the next step in their learning journey.”

We look forward to receiving further details of the allocation to FE to support this important agenda in due course.
