ColegauCymru is delighted that FE Multisport will return for a second time this month. Taking place at Pembrey Country Park on 11 May 2022, the inclusive event will include both non-competitive and competitive duathlon options and will welcome individual and team entries from both learners and staff from FE colleges.

With 250 entries from 8 colleges from across Wales already registered to take part, this event is one of many projects funded by Welsh Government to support further education settings to promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing through increased access to creative, sporting and cultural activities. The funding forms part of the Renew and Reform plan which was announced in Autumn 2021 and is designed to support young people who have been adversely affected as a direct result of the Covid19 pandemic.

The FE Mutlisport event kicks off a busy week of multisport activity in Carmarthenshire including a primary school duathlon leading through to British Super Series, British Para Super Series and Welsh championships events in Llanelli on the 14 - 15 May.

ColegauCymru Sport and Wellbeing Project Manager Rob Baynham said,

“The funding received from Welsh Government has been warmly welcomed by the FE sector. ColegauCymru commissioned research from June 2021 confirms the detrimental effect of the Pandemic on our young people and the importance of active wellbeing in supporting recovery.”

Rob added,

“We’re committed to ensuring health and active wellbeing is sufficiently funded and remains at the forefront of every college agenda. This will ensure that FE colleges continue to be happy, healthy places in which to study and work.”

Learners from Coleg Sir Gar will volunteer at the even taking on roles as marshals and timekeepers and assisting with all aspects of event management on the day.

We’re grateful to all our partners for their ongoing support for these events including Welsh Government, AoC Sport, Welsh Triathlon, Welsh Cycling, Coleg Sir Gar and Carmarthenshire County Council.
