ColegauCymru is delighted to announce the return of our FE Multisport Event for 2023.

Hosted at Pembrey Country Park on Wednesday 10th May 2023, this inclusive Duathlon offers an opportunity for all learners and staff in further education settings to participate in their first multisport event at a range of levels. Our previous events have welcomed participants ranging from Independent Learning Skills (ILS) learners enjoying a group activity challenge for the first time through to learners and staff competing at elite level.

ColegauCymru Sport and Active Wellbeing Project Manager Rob Baynham said,

“With 400 competitors from 7 colleges from across Wales expected to take part, FE Multisport represents a new direction for competitive sport and events in the FE sector. This format provides one of the few opportunities where learners and staff can compete alongside each other, from beginner through to competitive level.”

Head of Development for Welsh Triathlon Amy Jenner, added,

“At Welsh Triathlon our purpose is to develop a triathlon community that enhances the well-being of current and future generations in Wales, and we’re delighted to be supporting the event once again. The Duathlon offers a format for everyone and is a great example of how learners and staff can benefit from being active.”

The 2023 event will once again focus on providing a challenge that embraces the principles of the ColegauCymru Active Wellbeing Strategy, which looks to help Wales to become a healthier and more active nation. The event is designed to encourage participants to improve their wellbeing through engaging in sport and physical activity with their peers, building up resilience and social skills in the process.

ColegauCymru is grateful for the continued support of our partners Welsh Triathlon, Coleg Sir Gâr, AoC Sport, Welsh Cycling, Carmarthenshire County Council and Pembrey Country Park.

We’re also pleased to announce two new partners for this year’s event. Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol will join us to launch their new ‘Sport Through the Welsh Language’ app which is in partnership between the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol and Coleg Cambria, and supports learners and apprentices to use their Welsh language skills in the classroom and in the workplace, whatever their current language skill level. Disability Sport Wales is also a welcome addition to the partnership of organisations involved in the event. With over 40% of participants having additional learning needs the Duathlon provides a fully inclusive approach to further education sport.

The event is funded by Welsh Government as part of the ColegauCymru Active Wellbeing Project and connects with Sport Wales Active Wellbeing Project activity in the FE sector in Wales.
