February 2022 saw the ColegauCymru Teaching and Learning Network host the third in a series of successful Teachmeet events, designed specifically for colleagues in the further education and work-based learning sectors, to share examples of good practice. The events, funded by Welsh Government, also supports knowledge exchange across the whole of the FE sector in Wales.
This event had a distinct construction feel and we were delighted to host some great speakers!
Gareth Wyn Evans of Construction Wales Innovation Centre (CWIC) opened the session with details of the fantastic CONVERT technology, a state of the art immersive training and engagement tool which is transforming the delivery of construction qualifications.
Katie Morrison, Senior Site Manager for Kier Group and former Pembrokeshire College learner, spoke of her experience of progressing her studies in FE and going on to achieve a successful career in what continues to be a male dominated sector.
There was further valuable input from colleagues from Coleg Sir Gar, Coleg Ceredigion, NPTC Group of Colleges, Pembrokeshire College and Gower College Swansea, who all shared knowledge and tips on a series of topics including learner engagement and the benefits of a bilingual education.
We were pleased that Pembrokeshire College’s Chris Curtis, in his capacity as Welsh Regional Chair Of British Association of Construction Heads (BACH), was able to close the event, praising the efforts of colleagues during what has been a challenging two years. He also looked ahead saying that this is an excitement time for the sector with lots of exciting changes still to come to the delivery of Constuction qualifications in the further education and work-based learning sectors in Wales.
