Consultation Response

UK Government

Deadline for response: 24 November 2024

The industrial strategy is the UK government’s proposed 10-year plan for the economy. It aims to deliver the certainty and stability businesses need to invest in the high-growth sectors and drive long-term economic growth. The final industrial strategy will be published in spring 2025, alongside the multi-year spending review.

In our submission we emphasised the need to prioritise sub-sectors that advance Net Zero goals, support regional growth, and ensure economic resilience. We highligthed the role of Further Education in Wales in meeting industry demands through the delivery of diverse learner pathways, including apprenticeships and higher-level qualifications. Our response called for collaboration between the UK and Welsh governments, sustained investment in skills development, and addressing the budget cuts in the apprenticeship programme. We stressed the importance of industry partnerships, innovation, and flexible learning pathways to prepare a skilled workforce for future economic challenges, advocating for a coordinated approach to drive productivity and growth.
