The First Minister has today published a written statement in the context of the Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) (Wales) Regulations 2020 which places a series of restrictions on gatherings, the movement of people, and the operation of businesses, including closures.
Today’s announcement means a change for outdoor groups activities which is a positive move for sport in colleges.
“We are making changes to the regulations to allow larger gatherings outdoors of up to 30 people where these are organised and supervised by a responsible person. This will allow sports and leisure activities, such as fitness and dance classes, to take place outdoors, as well as collective worship. This will include charities, businesses, and sports clubs and a risk assessment will need to be carried out.”
Mark Drakeford MS, First Minister
In practical terms, today’s announcement means that a group can meet outdoors to undertake socially distanced activity. Further advice is expected in relation to a number of areas including the shared use of equipment, cleaning and transport.
A cautious approach continues to be advised to ensure that all activity is legal, insurable and sanctioned by the NGB/college. Above all, the safety and wellbeing of both learners and staff remains our priority.
Further information from Sport Wales and respective NGBs is expected imminently which we will share directly with colleges.
