Following consultation over the summer months, Welsh Government’s written statement has announced that there will be an uplift of pay to reward our highly skilled and hardworking teachers in Wales. The Minister notes that negotiations between further education colleges and unions are ongoing.

ColegauCymru Chief Executive Iestyn Davies said,

“We are engaged in detailed and collaborative dialogue with both Welsh Government and other stakeholders.”

Mr Davies added,

“Due to both historical and Covid-related financial pressures, our member colleges have not factored pay increases into their budgets for the forthcoming year. As such, settlement can only be achieved if fully funded. Parity will be a priority in the discussions.”

Welsh Government has a long-standing commitment to pay parity and we look forward to a further announcement which will be made in due course. ColegauCymru has written to the Minister requesting that provision is made for FE settlement. Further we are looking to convene a meeting with joint trade union representatives to progress this matter at the earliest opportunity. We remain committed to continuing the dialogue to reach an agreeable solution.
