Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) is a material used in construction in many buildings between the 1960s and 1990s. Its presence has been confirmed in a range of public sector properties across the UK. The safety of learners, staff and members of the public is top of the list for every college leadership team. Estates teams in colleges across Wales are prioritising review work to identify any potential issues relating to RAAC building materials in college buildings, including engaging with external experts to gather detailed information. Over the past decade, the further education sector has benefited from significant capital investment, with new campuses spread right across Wales. Colleges will continue to work closely with the Welsh Government on RAAC, and ColegauCymru is meeting regularly with estates teams for updates. The safety of our learners and staff is paramount, and the sector will react accordingly and in collaboration with Welsh Government should any issue arise.
