ColegauCymru has today welcomed the Welsh Government announcement of £1.8 million to support health and social care students in Wales.
Health and social care forms an important and considerable part of FE delivery in Wales and a vital part of our communities.
ColegauCymru Chief Executive Iestyn Davies said,
“The pandemic has brought into sharper focus than ever the importance of health and social care. The additional funding will help ensure that more learners are encouraged into the sector, to complete their studies and to progress to meaningful, skilled careers.”
As we emerge from the pandemic and with demand for jobs in this area expected to grow, we are encouraged by Welsh Government’s commitment to ensuring the long-term prosperity of the sector.
Mr Davies further added,
“We continue to be committed to working closely with Welsh Government and other stakeholders to ensure that learners in Wales are able to gain valuable health and social care qualifications. This will allow them to progress in meaningful careers in a crucial sector which contributes richly to both our economy and society.
"While the funding is welcome, ColegauCymru and the further education sector remain concerned about other factors, including the ongoing issues with vocational qualifications in the health and social care. It is important that we work together to ensure the best outcomes for learners and citizens across Wales.”
