With the popularity of women’s football at an all-time high and the Wales women’s senior side gearing up for the 2025 Euros in Switzerland later this year, Welsh FE colleges are playing a crucial role in developing the next generation of talented players.

The Welsh Colleges Women’s Football Squad will travel to Rome at the beginning of March to compete in the prestigious Roma Caput Mundi tournament. Competing at under-23 level, the team will face representative teams from Canada, Montenegro, and England in the pool stages, joining other teams from the USA, Canada, Ukraine, and Italian regional squads.

The tournament promises a busy and exciting schedule, with three games in just four days. Alongside football, players will have the opportunity to take part in cultural visits, enriching their international experience. The visit is part-funded by the Lazio Regional Committee, ensuring that players who may not have otherwise had the opportunity can take part in this incredible experience.

ColegauCymru Active Wellbeing and Sport Project Manager, Rob Baynham, said

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our players to gain international experience and test themselves against high-level competition. The exposure to different styles of play and the intensity of tournament football will be invaluable for their development.”

The squad will be led by Team Manager Sean Regan (Coleg Cambria) and Head Coach Claire O’Sullivan (Coleg y Cymoedd). Players have been selected from across Wales, with the final squad chosen following trials and warm-up matches against Pontypridd Ladies and English Colleges.
