A sincere congratulations to the learners, tutors and organisations who came out on top in this year's Work Welsh National Awards. This is the first time that the national awards have been held, with learners from many sectors featuring in various categories.
Understandably, in the current climate, it was not possible to hold an awards evening this year, but I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge all of the fantastic individuals who have succeeded in the scheme so far.
The Work Welsh Scheme has been funded by the Welsh Government, with the National Centre for Learning Welsh developing the brand Cymraeg Gwaith. The further education (FE) sector has been proud to be part of the Scheme since the pilot in 2017, and three years of enthusiasm for learning Welsh is now showing clearly.
Working alongside Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, ColegauCymru has coordinated the project in the further education sector, with the 19/20 Scheme involving 11 FE colleges, over 270 learners and a fantastic group of skilled tutors.
Iestyn Davies, Chief Executive of ColegauCymru, said,
"As a body working closely with FE colleges, we are hugely proud of the Cymraeg Gwaith Scheme and also of the partnership with the Centre and Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol. We share the same aims and objectives of ensuring that the FE workforce can fulfil the task of providing academic and vocational learning through the medium of Welsh and English. The success of the FE programme is a real encouragement to do even more if funding remains available.”
As a sector, we are over the moon to bring back a first prize in three categories, as well as four additional awards, here are the results:
