Most countries in the world have their own national qualification frameworks.

Frameworks in EU member countries are referenced to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) European Qualifications Framework (EQF) | CEDEFOP (europa..eu)

In 2018, before the UK left the European Union, the referencing reports for England & Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales were updated to ensure continued alignment to the EQF and, through this, to qualifications in other EU member states.

The re-referencing supports the mobility of learners as well as the movement of workers wishing to live and work overseas by making the qualifications they hold clear, comparable and recognised outside Wales and the UK.

ColegauCymru led this work with funding acquired through the EQF Policy Network and, in October 2019 published its report:

Referencing the Credit & Qualifications Framework for Wales (CQFW) to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF)

ColegauCymru worked closely with Qualifications Wales, Welsh Government, HEFCW, NTfW and other stakeholders in Wales to complete this work.

All EU referencing reports can be found here.

UK ENIC is the designated United Kingdom national agency for the recognition and comparison of international qualifications and skills. They also provide the only official source of information on international education systems and qualifications attained from outside the UK, as prescribed by the Lisbon Recognition Convention.
