Successful Pembrey Multisport Event sees over 200 college students and staff take part in competitive and Go-Tri duathlon events.

The races gave the opportunity for FE students from colleges in Wales to either competitively race in a duathlon containing a 5km run, followed by a 20km cycle and finished off with a 2.5km run or try a duathlon for the first time following the shorter Go-Tri route.

The Go-Tri event also allowed further education students of all abilities to partake in a race at their own pace with the assistance they needed. Giving them the opportunity to experience a duathlon for the first time without pressure of having to compete. The event was a rousing success with 5 waves of students and staff from Gower College Swansea, Cardiff and Vale College, Coleg y Cymoedd, Coleg Sir Gâr a Cheredigion and Bridgend College taking part in the Go-Tri event.

The event was covered by several media organisation with interviews on Radio Cymru and S4C’s Heno featuring it on their Thursday night show.

ColegauCymru would like to express thanks to our partners for their continued support throughout the organisation of this event including Welsh Triathlon, Coleg Sir Gar, AoC Sport, Welsh Cycling, Carmarthenshire County Council and Pembrey Country Park.

Today showcased the importance of active wellbeing in further education and introduced an event some might not have considered taking part in before. It was great to see such a large turn out in Pembrey and we hope that learners and staff from all colleges who took part will have enjoyed and consider doing something similar in future”
