In light of today’s decision by Welsh Government not to mandate the use of face coverings in schools and colleges from September, Further Education colleges in Wales, supported by ColegauCymru, will be taking immediate steps to review the best way forward for the sector.

We will urgently consult with principals of our member colleges in order to come to a sector-wide decision on how to proceed, with the safety of both learners and staff at the heart of our decision making.

ColegauCymru Chief Executive Iestyn Davies said,

“Our principals are considering the use of face coverings as a requirement in all communal areas within further education colleges. Their use clearly has both cost and health and safety implications.
This is an issue that is not going away as we approach the recommencement of teaching for all ages across Wales.”
